| Canadian Brownfields Network |
Toronto, Ontario – The Canadian Urban Institute and aboutREMEDIATION.com has announced the creation of a national network for brownfield practitioners and stakeholders called the Canadian Brownfields Network (CBN). The network will build on recommendations from the National Round Table on the Environment and Economy’s (NRTEE) report, National Brownfield Redevelopment Strategy for Canada, and the recommendation from the office of Dennis Mills, MP for the creation of a national brownfields network. As a forum for communication and discussion, the CBN will facilitate linkages and connectivity, build capacity, and coordinate the exchange of ideas, expertise, and success stories. Progressive thinking and effective approaches for the revitalization of Canadian communities are key components of sustainable community development. The CBN’s objective is to accelerate brownfield redevelopment in Canada, thereby improving a community’s environmental and economic performance. The CBN will form strategic alliances with industry associations and other organizations that have a vested interest in brownfield redevelopment in Canada. Current supporting organizations include: ONEI (Ontario Environmental Industry Association), CEAA (Canadian Environmental Auditing Association), OPPI (Ontario Professional Planners Institute), CRESTech and RÉSEAU environnement. Under the direction of an Advisory Panel chaired by Mr. Angus Ross, L&A Concepts, “and Chair of the NRTEE National Brownfield Redevelopment Strategy Task Force,” the CBN, with representation from across Canada, will coordinate national interests and strengthen the Canadian brownfields industry. Mr. Ross notes that, “The formation of the Canadian Brownfields Network is exactly the step recommended by the NRTEE’s strategy and I am delighted that the challenge has been met so rapidly by the private sector – a key player in remediating Canada’s brownfield sites. In conjunction with private and government partners at all levels, the CBN is clearly positioned to spearhead Canadian brownfield redevelopment.” For further information, contact info@canadianbrownfieldsnetwork.ca.
