HazMat Dedicates Special Media Coverage to Brownfields
Toronto, Canada - HazMat Management Magazine is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Canadian Brownfields Network (CBN). Starting with the August/September 2005 edition, HazMat will feature a special section on brownfields, the more than 30,000 contaminated or underutilized sites across Canada. The "Canadian Brownfields Chronicle" will include technical case studies on new and innovative remediation methods as well as analysis of legislation and policy regarding brownfield redevelopment. The articles will be written by leading experts in conjunction with HazMat's award-winning writers and editors.

National Brownfield Association Expands Internationally
The National Brownfield Association (NBA), a not-for-profit, educational organization, has expanded internationally to form the Ontario Chapter under the newly established NBA Canada. "This is the first chapter established in Canada and the eighth NBA chapter in the last 30 months. Both public and private sector organizations recognize the important role the NBA and NBA Canada chapters play in gathering the stakeholders to advance the local brownfield market," says Mayor Ted Salci, City of Niagara Falls and Ontario Chapter president.

Cleanups Progressing at Military Bases and Former Defense Sites
In Texas, local communities are redeveloping Carswell, Bergstron, Kelly, and Reese Air Force bases, the Dallas Naval Air Station, and Red River Army Depot. Fort Chaffee and Eaker Air Force bases in Arkansas, England Air Force Base in Louisiana, and Fort Wingate Army Depot in New Mexico are being transformed into uses ranging from airports and industrial parks to hospitals, recreation facilities, and housing developments. In addition, more than 900 formerly used defense sites (FUDs) in the five south-central states have been inventoried, screened, and are being prioritized for assessment and cleanup.

Brownfields Insurance Publication Available Online
The Office of Brownfields Cleanup and Redevelopment at The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released a publication entitled, State Brownfield Insurance Programs. Prepared by Kristen R. Yount of Northern Kentucky University and Peter B. Meyer of the University of Louisville, the document describes state programs either in existence or under development in Massachusetts, Wisconsin, California, and Pennsylvania.

Canadian Brownfields Network
Toronto, Ontario – The Canadian Urban Institute and aboutREMEDIATION.com has announced the creation of a national network for brownfield practitioners and stakeholders called the Canadian Brownfields Network (CBN). The network will build on recommendations from the National Round Table on the Environment and Economy’s (NRTEE) report, National Brownfield Redevelopment Strategy for Canada, and the recommendation from the office of Dennis Mills, MP for the creation of a national brownfields network.
